The site is part of a wider development area with outline permission for up to 450 dwellings, located on the edge of the town of Chippenham. Proposals are for 60 dwellings in a variety of tenures, types & sizes, including 1 to 4 bedroom homes in the form of a bungalow, apartments, terraces, semi-detached & detached units. Storey heights vary from 1 to 2.5 with the majority being 2 storey.

Proposals evolved following extensive negotiations with the local planning authority to provide the correct urban design & connectivity response which included: -

• Improvements to the pedestrian & vehicular linkages across the site;

• Greater variation in building lines;

• Introduction of focal spaces;

• Uplifted/ distinct material use to key spaces to aid legibility & reinforce importance;

• More contemporary architectural style with material palette sympathetic to the wider site;

• Additional street tree & soft landscaping opportunities added;

• Provision of greater variety & mix of house types that cater for a wider range of community needs;

• Dwellings positioned & orientated to better frame the public realm. Dual aspect house types used to terminate vistas & define key spaces;

 

Distinct design hierarchy developed throughout the re-design for both plan & elevation to help create clear legibility whilst ensuring continuity with the wider neighbourhood.
